Passion open season with 62-0 victory over the Vipers
Harrisburg, PA. The weather in Central Pennsylvania can be very unpredictable in the middle of April. But for the Pittsburgh Passion, the final score was just as beautiful as the bright, sunny skies. The black and gold clad Passion began their IWFL history with a 62-0 win over the Central PA Vipers. The Passion defense started the game by holding the Vipers without a first down on the first possession of the game and allowed the offense to start their first drive from the 24 yard line. Two plays later, rookie RB Jen Hoffman scored a sixteen yard touchdown on her first carry and Pittsburgh was well on its way. QB Lisa Horton scrambled 14 yards to match her number for the Passion's second touchdown. Hoffman would continue the offensive attack with the next two touchdowns on runs of five and twelve yards to give Pittsburgh a 27-0 lead, just before the two minute warning of the first half. Horton, after connecting airing it out, would add her second touchdown on a seven yard run to give Pittsburgh a 34-0 halftime lead.

Laurie Roberts started the second half scoring with a three yard touchdown extending Pittsburgh's lead to 41. One rookie had already ran for three rushing touchdowns and another found her spot in the Passion's already crowded backfield. Duquesne University's Amanda Haeg scored three touchdowns to finish out the scoring. Amanda finished with 107 yards on six carries, all in the final 21 minutes of the game. Stars abound on the defensive side of the ball as well. Tia Montgomery finished the game with a sack and interception. Central PA native Katie Heil, another rookie, forced and recovered the same fumble to go along with two other tackles. Another rookie Valerie Rizzo had two sacks and two tackles; while veteran Olivia Griswold finished the game with a team high eight tackles. Lauren Bracco connected on eight of nine extra points in the afternoon as well.

The Pittsburgh Passion return home for a tough three-game home stand. The Boston Militia come to town for a game on Saturday, April 26th and the D.C. Divas arrive on Saturday, May 3rd., followed on May 10th with the Passion hosting Columbus. All games are at 7:05pm at Cupples Stadium on the south side of Pittsburgh.
