PASSION VS. FUSION
With 4 seconds left in the game, Cleveland Fusion QB Casey Stinson ran it in from eight yards out as time expired to give the Fusion a 35-33 win over the Passion at Cupples Stadium. The Passion had taken a 33-29 lead at the 9:41 mark of the 4th quarter on a 40 yard run by QB Lisa Horton. After trading possessions, Cleveland took over at its own 44 yard line with 3:16 on the clock, and ran off an 11-play drive to get the win.

Horton led the Passion’s running attack with 70 yards on 7 carries. She also threw for 202 yards on 9 completions in 26 attempts. Horton’s favorite target was receiver/running back Lori Johnson, who caught 6 passes for 148 yards including touchdown strikes of 45 and 36 yards. Johnson was 4 for 4 for 93 yards in the first quarter alone.

The Passion jumped out to an early 14-0 lead in front of the home crowd when Horton hit Lyndsi Hughes with a 27 yard td pass at 13:50 of the second quarter. But the Fusion stormed back to tie the game at 14 on a td pass as time expired in the first half.

The teams traded the lead in the third quarter, and Cleveland led 29-20 entering the fourth. Following an interception and 23 yard return by Lailah Issac that put the ball on the Fusion 1 yard line, Horton snuck in for the td, and the score was 29-26 Fusion when the try for a 2-point conversion failed. The Fusion went 4 and out, and Horton went 40 yards for the score on the Passion’s next series. That set the stage for the game-winning drive by the Fusion.

On defense, Lailah Issac recorded 5 tackles and had an interception and return for 23 yards. Ava Nickens led with 9 tackles, and Tia Montgomery had another solid effort with 8 stops. Melissa Yeck had 6 tackles (one for a 4-yard loss), and linebacker Kristan Sylvestri had the game’s only fumble recovery.
