Since its formation in August of 2000 by the well known sports and entertainment entrepreneur, Catherine Masters, the NWFA has broken several attendance records, created history by obtaining the first ever betting line on a women's football game, and in 2002 negotiated and signed a five year TV rights broadcast deal with the Football Network giving the NWFA the opportunity to produce and broadcast the 2002 Championship game to over 3 million homes to the delight of its first Championship sponsor, The Essere Corporation. By 2003 the league had gained enough popularity that their website had over 3.5 million hits in April alone. That year, the NWFA held their National Championship Game at Vanderbilt University stadium making it the largest venue to ever host a womens football game. Again, the league secured a betting line and brought in another big name to be their National and Championship sponsor, Dickens Energy Cider drink. The NWFA also produced and broadcast the 2003 Championshi p game to more than 5 million homes. By 2004, the National Womens Football Association had gained enough recognition to hold the Dickens Energy Cider Women's Pro Football Championship, presented by the Progressive Rehabilitation Group, Inc. at the 68 Million dollar Papa John's Cardinal Stadium in Louisville, KY. The NWFA has acquired quite a following since its start and has been featured in more than 250 major publications and TV networks including the CBS Evening News, The NBC Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The NBC Today Show, CNBC, MSNBC, CNN, Inside Edition, SPIKE TV, BET's MAAD Sports, The New York Times, The LA Times, Nickelodeon, the Boston Globe, The Washington Post, Sports Illustrated, OT Magazine and many more local and regional publications and networks.
