WOMEN'S FOOTBALL GOES HOLLYWOOD! |
|
The National Women's Football Association has announced the signing of
an agreement with Ithaka Entertainment in Hollywood to produce a
feature film about the NWFA and women's pro football. The agreement
was made between league CEO, Catherine Masters and Braxton Pope and
Andrew Weiner, partners in Ithaka Entertainment. Screenwriter Paul
Cuschieri is attached to write the screenplay. Cuschieri represented
by Naren Desai at Brillstein-Grey and attorney David Krintzman of
Barnes, Morris, Klein and Yorn.
"The world of professional women's football is extremely rich from a
storytelling perspective, and I feel fortunate to partner with
Catherine Masters and the National Women's Football Association to
bring their sport to the big screen."
Ithaka maintains a production deal with Lionsgate Entertainment and
operates out of their offices in Los Angeles. Pope is currently
producing the feature adaptation of Amarillo Slim starring Nicolas
Cage, to be directed by Milos Forman as well as an urban thriller
written by Eric Eason, to be directed by Pete Berg and set up at Radar
Pictures. Pope's most recent film, "Bondage" starring Michael Angarano,
Illeana Douglas, Griffin Dunne and Andy Dick was selected to premiere
in competition at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival this
spring. Ithaka is represented by entertainment attorney Mark Vega and
Pope is represented by the Endeavor Talent Agency. This past year he
was selected by the Hollywood Reporter for their Next Generation
issue's "35 under 35."
"The last great movie about women's sports was a "League of Their Own"
and we feel we have an equally great story to tell. With the right
studio, producer and companies behind this project, we are confident
it will be a big movie. Building women's pro football is an
outstanding story that needs to be told," Masters states. |
